Hot Springs Soak—Wyoming Bucket List

(Playing catch-up on the blog….this was back in Feburary.)

I have a running list of things/experiences that I would like to do while living in Wyoming.

Soaking in the hot spring water in Thermopolis was one of them.

Before Matt gets super busy with ranch work, we took a little day trip down to Thermop (as the locals call it) to Hot Springs State Park.

You can choose to soak inside or outside. The water is piped/funneled through and gravity flows out both pools. There is a slight sulfur smell. The water has 27 different minerals and is always at 104 degrees or more. You are limited to 20 minute soaks.

There is a ledge around the inside of the pool and a row of benches in the middle for sitting.

Where the spring water is flowing into the pool is SUPER hot. It was well over 104.

(side note: Most of these pictures are taken with a GoPro….that doesn’t have a screen, so I can’t really see what I’m taking a picture of…You can see the shadow of it in the picture above. It’s shooting “blind”. It makes me think about the picture/composition and hope for the best. I brought it to the pool instead of my big camera. The GoPro can get wet. I had plans of taking it into the water with us, but I got too cautious when I thought it might get too hot.)

The water is in the pool then overflows down a chute and out into a ditch, then into the river.

After getting out of the pool, the 43 degree air temperature did not feel cold at all. It was a nice relief.

After the bath house, we got dressed and explored a little more of the park.

The park is nice, has some nice trails and a good suspension bridge over the Big Horn River.

All in all, it was a good day trip.
